TAFF 2012 Race Seeking Candidates

(x-posted from http://TAFFnews.livejournal.com)

The Trans-Atlantic Fan Fund is looking for candidates for the 2012 Eastbound TAFF trip. Candidates must be nominated by 5 SF fans known to the current TAFF administrators, John Coxon, Anne Gray, and Brian Gray. Three of those nominators must be resident in North America and two resident in Europe. In addition to their nominations, prospective candidates have to submit a written platform (not exceeding 101 words), a deposit of $20, and a pledge to take the TAFF trip in 2012 if they win. TAFF will send the winning delegate(s) to attend the 2012 Eastercon, Olympus, in London April 6 to April 9 (http://olympus2012.org/). TAFF delegates are also expected to write a trip report and administer TAFF for two years. The fan fund will pay for the trip and related expenses, as well as the publication of the completed trip report. Candidates will be voted on by interested fans from all over the world.

For more information, see www.taff.org.uk. The North American TAFF administrators are Anne and Brian Gray; send nominations and other materials to them at 5006 Royene Ave NE, Albuquerque, NM 87110, USA or akg.netmouse@gmail.com. European nominators should send materials to John Coxon, either on john.coxon@gmail.com or by mail to 14 Chapel Lane, Peterborough, PE4 6RS, United Kingdom.

If you would like to take us up on this fantastic opportunity please find people to nominate you and let us know, since the deadline for nominations is September 30th! If you have any questions about what's required of you or how to acquire nominations, please feel free to get in touch with any of us and ask. We hope to see you running for TAFF soon!

TAFF Deadline Extended

Following assurances that the Renovation fan programme can still integrate this year's TAFF delegate into its schedule with a shorter lead-in time, and the agreement of all four candidates, the fund's administrators have decided to extend the deadline for the current race until Tuesday, 26 April. This will enable ballot forms to be handed in at Illustrious, this year's UK Eastercon, and also gives online voters using our PayPal facility an extra six weeks to cast their digital ballot.

With four fans vying for the honour of representing European fandom -- Graham Charnock, John Coxon, Liam Proven and Paul Treadaway -- this was always going to be an exciting race. Why not keep the fun going a little longer?

Ballot forms can be downloaded at [taff.org.uk].

TAFF Podcast

jimtrash has just released Pips #5, an audiozine featuring interviews with all four candidates in the current TAFF race. Coming on the back of ceemage's online interview with myself and fivemack in 2009, UK fandom definitely seems to be leading the way when it comes to bringing TAFF to the audience of a wider audience.

2011 TAFF Race Greenlit [2]

The formal announcement of the 2011 race is now up at the TAFF website, together with the candidates' platforms. I'm aiming to having the ballot forms available by tomorrow.

TAFF 2011 Race Greenlit

There will be an official announcement shortly, over at the TAFF website, but the westward race to Reno will field no fewer than four European candidates: Graham Charnock, John Coxon, Liam Proven and Paul Treadaway. Voting closes 12 March 2011.

TAFF 2011: Update

Talk about going from one extreme to the other. This morning, we had one candidate for the 2011 westward TAFF race to the Reno Worldcon; as of midnight, we have three, plus a possible fourth. Those who have publically thrown their hats into the ring are John Coxon (johncoxon), Paul Treadaway (unwholesome_fen) and Graham Charnock; I'll hold off announcing the other name until it becomes public knowledge. If all of them go ahead, it would be the first four-way race since 2008 and the first such featuring European candidates since 1993.

Edit: As of 3:15am, both John and Graham had all five nominations in place, whilst Paul had two of his (with the offer of a third).

Call for nominations

I made a not terribly effective attempt to recruit nominators earlier in the year, then got rather distracted by life stuff getting in the way. I realise time is now rather short, but if anyone would be willing to nominate me, please contact the administrator, since there is a lack of candidates at present. Thanks!

Paul Treadaway

2011: First Candidate Announced

I have now received the five nominations required for John Coxon (johncoxon) to stand in the 2011 race: James Bacon, Claire Brialey and Dave Langford (Europe); Chris Garcia and Steve Stiles (North America). At present, John is the sole candidate.

TAFF 2011: Last Call

As previously announced, the deadline for nominations for the next westward TAFF race falls this Saturday. At present, I am aware of one candidate, who has the required five nominations (the rules are here). Unfortunately, unless a second steps forward, the race may have to be postponed or even cancelled. If you know anyone who's interested, or wish to put your own name forward, please contact me as a matter of urgency.

TAFF 2011: Requirements For Candidates

Just to confirm, prospective candidates must provide the following:

* Five nominations from known fans, three of whom must be resident in Europe and two resident in North America. All of these should send a signed nomination via postal mail -- or, if sending the nomination by e-mail, include a phone number for verification
* A written platform, not exceeding 101 words
* A £10 bond (make cheques out to 'TAFF')
* A pledge to make the trip should he or she win

At least two valid candidates are needed for any race to proceed.
